Will Carrara

Director of Engineering

Will Carrara brings more than a decade of experience in geospatial software engineering, data systems architecture, and applied machine learning to his role as OpenET’s Director of Engineering, where he leads the design and development of the platform’s core systems. At OpenET, he oversees engineering strategy, scalability, and security across the Data Explorer, API, FARMS, and cloud infrastructure—ensuring that OpenET’s tools remain robust, interoperable, and aligned with the platform’s scientific mission.

Before joining OpenET, Will spent five years as a contractor with NASA, where he developed evapotranspiration (ET) modeling and satellite data processing pipelines to support large-scale environmental monitoring. He also led multidisciplinary teams in software consulting, building data-driven applications for clients in the environmental, agricultural, and public sectors. His work has consistently bridged satellite remote sensing, cloud-native geospatial workflows, and user-centered design, advancing the practical application of ET science for water management and climate resilience.

Will’s background reflects a deep commitment to translating complex environmental data into accessible, actionable tools. He continues to drive OpenET’s technical vision, supporting efforts to expand the platform’s impact for water managers, growers, and communities across the West.
