Gopal Penny is a Senior Scientist at Environmental Defense Fund, where he integrates hydrology, geospatial data science, and agricultural systems research to inform water management and policy. His work advances new applications of OpenET to support water-efficient cropping decisions, conservation planning and monitoring, and the management of groundwater–surface water interactions. He earned his PhD and MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UC Berkeley, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech.
